What to Expect at Your In-Home Photo Session
Not too long ago, I wrote a blog post about my five favorite locations for taking photos. The first four locations I mentioned are some of my favorite public locations for outdoor photo shoots. The fifth location I talked about was taking photos in your home.
There’s something incredibly special about having your family photographed at home. It’s where real life happens — where your kids play, where laughter echoes down the hallway, and where the little moments that mean the most unfold every day. In-home photo sessions capture that sense of comfort and authenticity you simply can’t find anywhere else. But one question I hear often is, “What if my home is small or doesn’t have a lot of natural light?”

I don’t need a lot of space to capture beautiful family photos—just a corner to cuddle or play works perfectly. If your cozy space is on the dark side, that is not a problem. I can bring my studio lights to you and add a bounce of flash to capture a perfect portrait. Beautiful photographs aren’t limited to bright, open spaces. With the right approach and lighting, we can create soft, natural-looking images anywhere.
I bring my professional lighting equipment to every session, allowing me to shape and enhance the light in your home so it feels warm and true to life. Even in spaces with limited windows or darker walls, I can mimic the look of natural daylight, ensuring your family is beautifully illuminated without anything feeling harsh or artificial.

In fact, smaller homes often photograph wonderfully. There’s something cozy and intimate about capturing your family in the spaces where real life happens — on the couch, in the kitchen, snuggled together in a favorite corner. With a few small adjustments (like opening blinds, turning off overhead lights, or rearranging a piece of furniture), we can transform any room into a setting that tells your story perfectly.
Every home has its own unique light, rhythm, and story — and that’s exactly what makes in-home sessions so meaningful. Whether your home is bright and airy or cozy and dimly lit, what matters most is the love and connection within it. My goal is to help you see the beauty in your everyday surroundings and create images that feel like you. If you’ve ever thought your home might not be “photo-ready,” I promise — it’s more than enough. The love, laughter, and memories that live within those walls are what truly matter. An in-home session is all about capturing your family as you are, in the place you call home.
