Three Things I Love bout Photographing Families
I’ve always believed that photographs are more than just pictures — they are little time capsules that hold onto feelings, stories, and connections we never want to forget. Here are the things that I love the most about family photography.
Adding to your family story - one chapter at a time.
Photos have a way of holding on to the moments we wish could last forever. When you look back at them, it’s not just about remembering how things looked — it’s about remembering how they felt. For me, photography is about connection and about celebrating the chapters of life as they unfold. Whether it’s a milestone, a big family moment, or just an ordinary day you don’t want to forget, I feel so grateful every time I get invited to be part of it. I hope that your photos become more than just images on a screen — that they become keepsakes you’ll treasure, reminders of the love, joy, and connection in your life right now.
I encourage families to keep documenting their story as the years go by. Life changes so quickly, and before you know it, those little hands aren’t so little anymore. Having these moments to look back on is such a gift — not just for you now, but for your kids (and even their kids) someday. It’s about more than just pictures; it’s about holding on to the love, laughter, and connections that make your family yours.
Watching kiddos grow
I've had the honor and pleasure of photographing numerous families over the years, and it’s one of the things I treasure the most. I get to watch the kids grow up right in front of my camera — from their very first shy smiles to their giggles and big personalities that start to shine through as the years pass.
Every time a family comes back for another session, it feels a little like catching up with old friends. I hear about what’s new — missing teeth, a new baby sibling, a favorite hobby — and it’s such a joy to see how much has changed since the last time we were together. At the same time, there’s something really special about noticing what stays the same: the way a child still snuggles into their parent, or how siblings still make each other laugh with their inside jokes.
One of my favorite things about seeing families again and again is that together we’re building more than just portraits — we’re creating a visual story of their lives. Each session becomes another little chapter, and when you look back on them side by side, you can see the growth, the love, and the connection between them.
Capturing those in-between moments
It’s the unplanned moments — when kids reach for each other’s hands, when siblings burst into laughter over something silly, or when a parent sneaks a quiet glance at their child. Sometimes it’s the big bear hugs, sometimes it’s the little gestures you don’t even realize are happening — but those are the images that truly capture what your family feels like.
I love leaving space for these unexpected moments to unfold naturally. Those genuine connections are what I want you to see when you look back at your photos. Not just how everyone looked at a certain age, but how you loved, laughed, and belonged to each other in that season of life.
When I’m behind the camera, my focus isn’t on perfect poses or everyone smiling at the camera. It’s on the real moments in between — the laughter, the quirks, the connections that make your story one-of-a-kind. Sometimes the most beautiful images come from the unplanned little things: a hug that lingers, a playful glance, or the way your child’s face lights up when they’re being themselves. It’s the small details that make your story yours.
It’s a huge honor to be trusted with those memories, and I never take it for granted. Whether it’s the chaos of toddlers, the energy of school-age kids, or the sweet milestones of teens, every stage has its own kind of magic — and I love getting to capture it all.
