Fun with Personality Photos
Recently I invited several families with preschool to elementary aged children to my home studio for what I call personality portraits. These are individual headshot portraits using one light and very simple backgrounds. The goal of this type of session is to capture the unique personality of each child - genuine expressions, little quirks, and natural moments that show their true personality. And I had a blast with this!
There was such a wide range of kids that I met. There were the ones that started out very shy, but ended up being so incredibly silly. Then there were a few others that started out silly and stayed that way! It is challenging trying to take a headshot of a little one that only wants to run in circles, but I got it done. I love not only the toothy smiles, but the missing teeth smiles as well! There were other kids where I could tell they were no stranger to a camera in their face and absolutely loved every second of having their photo taken. Some kids brought a lovey with them, and if they were more comfortable holding onto their lovey for the photo, that was fine with me. Someday they will outgrow that and it is great to capture the memory of the time when it was so special to them.
From Shy…
To Silly!!

Love the silly toothy smiles!
Are you familiar with Prince Louis? He’s the youngest son of Prince William and Princess Catherine of Great Britain. He is known for his amusing character and humorous antics. I met a couple of kids that could give Prince Louis a run for his money! This was especially noticeable for the sibling shots at the end, and I loved seeing the interactions between the kids.
I also got some sweet smiles for mom to frame and put on the wall.
This was such a fun project for me! I loved working with all these kiddos just being themselves and letting their personalities shine through. When my kids were younger I would have loved to have school photos like this. If you think your kids’ schools could use a change for photo day, please keep me in mind!
Also, if you missed this photo op, I am doing fall mini sessions, and there are still plenty of spots available! The sign ups are HERE.
